Matt Taylor is a criminal defense attorney with over a decade of experience representing people facing serious charges throughout Northern California. He’s taken complex jury trials to verdict in Sacramento, San Joaquin, Contra Costa, and Butte counties, and handles every case—from misdemeanors to homicides—with a focus on strategy, preparation, and results.
Matt began his career as a prosecutor in Butte County, where he worked on DUIs, juvenile cases, collaborative courts, domestic violence, and homicides. He later joined the California Attorney General’s Office, handling white collar crime, public corruption, and officer-involved shooting investigations. He also served at the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office prosecuting general felonies. That experience now gives him a valuable edge as a defense attorney because he knows how prosecutors build their cases, and how to spot the weaknesses before they do.
Whether it's pushing for a dismissal, resolving a case before it's filed, securing the best possible plea deal, or taking the case to trial, Matt’s goal is always the same: getting the best outcome for his client. He loves trial work and brings a steady hand, clear strategy, and strong courtroom presence to every case. Most importantly, he gives clients straightforward, honest advice so they can make the right decisions for their future.
Matt graduated with distinction from McGeorge School of Law, where he earned honors in trial advocacy and government law.
